Arboriculture

Alex Shigo said it best,
"Trees must be touched to be understood."
Arboriculture has been part of human culture since begin of time, an example of this is growing fruit on a farm to the first monk in the 19-th century testing pea and flowers. In today’s, world for at least the last hundred years Arboriculture is know best as the industry called the tree care or tree service companies that we all have learned to known as the guys or women that remove or prune trees. So what is Arboriculture, it is the cultivation, management, and study of individual trees, shrubs, vines, and other perennial woody plants. It is both a practice and a science. The science of arboriculture study is to how plants grow and respond to their environment and cultural practices. The practice of arboriculture is the implementing the techniques of planting, fertilizing, pest and disease control, pruning and removal.
Arboriculture as a science is quick and fasted paced that is constantly changing sometimes overnight but the problem has been with dispersal and implementing the new techniques and information. Arboriculture is still dealing with this problem to this day is within small tree service companies that are coming out of the wood work to start a business with little to no experience to make a quick buck. Any example of this problem is topping of trees, which has been a known fact for over twenty year that it’s not beneficially to a tree(s) survival and health; but still being practiced on trees across the United States. Now don’t get me wrong, not all new small business owner are out to make a quick buck; there are many who are trained, licensed, experienced and college educated. This blog here has been created by new small business owner here in New York called Treeman Tom & Consulting.

As society and industry as has shown a large demand for science to lead the way to properly persevering trees among the urban environment. Arboriculture has become a movement that is swiping its way not just across the United States but across the world. This movement has lead to the creation of organizations and standards such as International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and now the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have been setting the standards on proper techniques that should be used to preserve trees through research and field experience.

Arboriculture isn’t just about the work being done in your backyard only. The Arbor Day Foundation the world’s largest non-profit conservation and education organization dedicated to planting trees. Arbor Day is a tree planting holiday that in each state has its own time frame and different tree species to be plant. Also, the tree care industry anticipates in Arbor Day functions and also other problem to educated and share the wonderfully world of arboriculture with the public.

Also ask yourself what I want done to my tree(s); removal, prune, brace and cabling, tree injections or removal and then another tree replanted in its place. Now when you call a tree company to have our tree(s) looked at to be cut are you calling someone who cares about the health and longevity of our tree(s) and more importantly about the big picture or are they just worried about the bottom dollar? Here at Treeman Tom and Consulting we are dedicated in providing and educating the public with proper tree care by evaluating, diagnosing, and care of trees we will provide you all the option we can provide and explain them to you in full.
